Over the years of posting here, I have often seen comments about running the 50s OMC 25hp, 30hp and 35hp non-superquiet motors on a hose. The same is true of the 60s 28hp and 33hp engines, which share the same basic gear box.
Many say that this can't be done, but it can. All that is required is to modify a rectagular type, rubber muff. Basically, you just saw about a third of the muff off. I have a pair of these modified muffs, which I used on a regular basis, when I had a pair of 1958 ERude Bigtwins on a couple of different boats.
As shown in the photos below, when I cut mine, I didn't do a "precision job." I just cut the material that I wanted to eliminate with a hacksaw. My workmanship ended up being crude, but the muffs work fine when placed with the cut side down, facing the cavitation plate. They will leak quite a bit, but if you have even moderate water pressure, the water pump will pick up sufficient water to keep the motor cool.
