Running an outboard on a stand

I have my 225 on a stand and would like to start it and run the trim/tilt. I have hooked up the battery so I could do the compression check but don’t know what else I need to hook up to get spark, I’ll mix fuel and can hook up a spare tank but as far as electrical I have no clue.

Any thoughts?

if you have the controler out of the boat, you can plug in the big red plug, and use the controller to start. with a 225 i hope it's a substancial stand. if not it will start by jumping the solenoid, but you can only kill it by choking it, if you have the primer type choke you turn the red knob the opposite of it's present position to choke the engine. be sure before you turn it over you have water to the intake.

I don't have a control for this motor I want to make sure it runs before I buy them, when I hook up the battery is there fire to the spark plugs or do I need to short some other contacts on the motor conections. I have a remote starter to turn it over.

the engine will start by simply jumping the solenoid. You need to do nothing else. You will have no way of choking the engine to get it started so you need to turn the red lever on the primer solenoid to the manual position and then back again when the engine starts. As mentioned, you will need to choke the engine to kill it.

Make sure you have water running to it or you'll fry the water pump impeller.

Worked great thanks for the heads up about choking it out to shut it off, used a sheet of cardboard to cover the carbs.
