Running compression test...

I am trying to get my motor ready for fishing season and have a stupid question. I have the lower unit removed right now, waiting on a seal kit and want to run a compression test, to verify my engine is sound. I can't think of a reason to not be able to do it without the lower unit attached, but would like another opinion...

You want the motor in nuetral anyway. Pop the plugs and have at it.

To be safe, ground the spark plug wires or set the kill switch (so there is no spark) before doing the compression test. It has always been my understanding that there is a danger of damaging some ignition system components if you crank the motor and don't do this.

Thanks, just what I was looking for. Just a little reassurance.
