do you all recommend running the gas out of the motor if it isn't going to be used for a week or so? Month? I have just bought a used 150 Yam 2 stroke (carbs) and I am doing this with smaller engines to avoid ethanol poisoning.

Re: running gas out of motor

The problem with the bigger motors is the fuel line is direct connected and not coupled at the motor, so it is a bit of a pain to do. We run our boats often enough so it hasn't been a problem yet.
What I do remember is my '86 Yamaha 90 that I owned for ten years. I always flushed and then disconnected the fuel line and ran dry. In the ten years I owned that motor I never touched the carbs! Or anything else for that matter. I have heard that was one of Yamahas best motors. Sure proved it by me....

I never run them dry. I use Stabil in the fuel. My boat can sit for several months & I never have any problems.

I'm the same way, I add fuel stabilizer throughout the year and never had a problem with the gas or carb issues.

Multi carb motor should never be run dry. One carb will always run dry before the others, and that dry carb is not providing lube to the cylinders that are being pulled along.

Solution: Use stabil and keep your bowls full and do not let the motor sit for extended periods of time...use them!
