Running lean????

Hey guys, I got a late start on the boating season this year and am just now getting my motor ready, 2002 F115. I pulled the plugs and noticed the porcelain is bright white which from my 2 stroke days I know is a result of a lean condition but not sure how it is supposed to work on a 4 stroke. I didn't get much use on the engine last year, maybe 20 hours. Is this something I need to be concerned with and if so what should I start looking at?

Thanks.

Re: Running lean????

Doesn't seem to be a lot of help on this forum with Ray and Rodbolt gone. Anyone know another forum where I might find those guys? I tried yamahaoutboardparts.com because I heard Rodbolt was over there now but my antivirus shuts it down because of a trojan.

Thanks.

Re: Running lean????

Any properly running engine will exhibit a whitish to moderate tan color on the plugs. Doesn't matter if it is a two stroke or four. Two strokes if idled or just poking along will darken the plug however. Therefore, the best test of spark plug condition is to run wide open for about a mile. Then kill the engine immediately. Don't let it idle. Now read the plugs.
