FYI..."Earmuffs" look like they sound, but fit over the water intakes on the lower unit of the motor. You attach a garden hose to them to supply the water. Can get them pretty much anywhere marine parts are sold.

Cheers.

Do not even start it out of the water. You will damage the water pump impeller.

Re: Running motor out of water

How big is your motor? If it is just a small one, I would put it in a barrel filled with water. This will give it backpressure and give you a true simulation of being in the water
If the motor is too big for a barrel, then you must use earmuffs. The impeller is only rubber and it can only take a few seconds to burn it out….Just remember that earmuffs do not provide backpressure so don’t go to high with the revs.

Re: Running motor out of water

My motor is a 1965 75 horse evinrude and doesn't have side intakes so the earmuffs I bought won't help me. Any other suggestions?

Trash can/bin/barrel. Water level above the impeller housing.

piont a house at it, with a little bit of duct tape, I wouldget it so the water sguarting out of the earmoths is hitting the intake! then start the mtor!
