Running Motor W/O Outdrive

I have read on here and in the manuals that it is not a good idea at all to run the motor w/o muffs on or the outdrive submerged as it will burn up the waterpump impeller fast...

So my question is that I have a questionable motor that I have the outdrive removed from can I run the motor for a few mins just to see if it runs before I dig into this project any deeper?

Yes. you're ok to run it for a short period of time.....minute or so..... Just remember that your exhaust components (rubber hoses) are cooled with water.

If you want to run it very long, disconnect the hose from the transom and connect your water hose there and you can run it as long as you like with the drive removed.

Re: Running Motor W/O Outdrive

Thanks that is what I figured... The same a PWC's and car and trucks can run for a bit w/o water just to see if it will fire... I will hook water to the hose to run tests... thanks again for the input
