I know you should never run a motor out of water unless you have the muffs, and I always use them. My question is should you immediately turn the water off when the motor shuts off or dies?(quite frequent in my particular case) So far, I've had my wife turning the water on and off during my battle with the Johnson 40 i keep yackin about because i heard somewhere it wasn't good on the impellar to leave the water on to it while the motor wasn't running or turning over. Is this true? I don't want to ruin my brand new impellar. Thanks for any insight! This site is excellent and has more information in one spot than i think you can find anywhere else.

I cannot see where the impeller or anything else can concievably be harmed by running water through the motor when not running, and a possible asset would be to let it cool down after running, rather than to build up latent heat. :D :D :D :D :D

thank you very much for your reply. that makes it easier on me also. I'm not getting water out the visual at the top of the motor when its off, and i wouldnt expect to. someone told me that it was bad on the impellar, and it didnt make sense to me either. thank you again for the info!

When using muffs , I use one of the pistol grip water sprayers with male threads on the output.<br />Just screw it to the muffs and you can turn it on and off right there and give the wife a break.
