Running My 7.4 Volvo Penta Dp On Muffs

Can any one tell me do i need a speical set of muffs to run my 1992 7.4 VP w/DP drive. I want to run it and fill it with anti-freeze this way for winter. I have a tank set up with a pump in it to pump af to the muffs.But the drive don't seam to want to pick it up. i did drain the block and manifolds first or do i need to put the drive in a tank that covers the pick ups. Thanks

If it's raw water cooled, that is a sure way to be back here in the spring asking about a cracked block. Have a look at the Adults only sticky at the top of the page, and the info on winterizing. You will see what I mean.

If you drained the engine and manifolds already along with any water in the hoses, power steering cooler, and raw water pump(if mounted on engine) then you should be good to go. You can still add anti freeze if you really want to though. Read the manuals Don recommended also.

You should not need a special set of muffs but setting the anti freeze as high as you can will give it some pressure into the drive.

Yep if you engine is raw water cooled don't do it that way...the manifolds will be full of AF and the engine may still have mostly water in it if the thermostat does not open all the way...just drain it as per the manual and probe all drain holes to make sure water comes out...make sure you also disconnect the raw water intake hoses and drain those so the pump doesn't freeze...I do back fill the engine....manifolds...and raw water intake hose with -100 AF but that's optional....and backfilling in my opinion is the ONLY way to use AF in a raw water cooled engine....

YOU DO NOT.... and let me repeat.... YOU DO NOT want to introduce antifreeze into the system for winterizing via muffs....

Drain the motor by pulling the plugs. Hole out the openings. If you want antifreeze in the motor then pull a couple of hoses and fill it that way.
