Running on 5 out of 6 cylinders? 90 hp inline 6

I had a problem recently with my engine which caused my #3 cylinder to overheat (causing melted aluminum on inside of cylinder and on the sparkplug). I am not getting spark to that cylinder and while I am troubleshooting the cause of overheating (maybe running to lean? Bad water pump?) I am looking for opinions on running on 5 of the 6 cylinders.

It runs great on 5 cylinders, but was wondering if anyone has done this before on an inline 6 and if they engine held up or blew up. I want to use the boat a few times until I can troubleshoot the #3 cylinder but don't want to make it worse.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Bad business........ if that piston has weakened and any piece breaks apart your block is going to be trashed and maybe the crank too.

I would not advise it. Sounds like a carb let it lean out and burn.
