2 strokes should be run at WOT all the time - that's the way they're designed to be run. If you're not running it at WOT for a least a minute or two every trip you should get a smaller motor. Mine see's 6000 RPMs about 40% of it's running time...

Yeah. I troll a lot with my old 35. At the end of the fishing day, I take a WOT joy ride around the lake before heading for the dock. I don't know if the engine needs it, but it sure makes me feel good.

Being designed to TOLERATE long periods of WOT does not mean that doing so will extend the life of the engine.

Best economy and longest engine life will be attained by running the engine at around 3/4 throttle with occasional bursts to WOT.

Doesn't anybody read their Owner's manuals?

I agree with JB, WOT also vibrates the crap out of the screws holding electrical components in place, ect loosening them & with Merc oil injections with the plastic drive gear it really taxes that thing I believe.
I allways give it WOT bursts from time to time but just from the way it sounds @ WOT I believe if you allways ran it that way it wouldnt be a good thing..
Not to mention the gas milage.
