Hi all,
I have been looking at boats all summer. Some owners start thier yamahas and run the engine with a hose connected to the flush connector. Other use the ear muffs. What is the correct way to run a yamaha 200 or biger 4 stroke out of the water?
Thanks again,
bob

You need to use the muffs running the engine on the flushing connection will burn out the water pump and overheat the engine.

The guy I bought my 150 from did that. I replaced the water pump before I ever drove the boat--I was going to do that anyway. Generally speaking, the risk is that the impeller for the water pump will burn out, and then the water pump will fail when in proper use, causing overheat. However, it shouldn't overheat on the hose, and if it does, the alarm should save you. Long way of saying, OK to buy the motor; plan on some work.

However this also indicates that your seller (a) tries to take care of his stuff (a good fact) and (b) doesn't know how (a bad fact).
