Running out of gas?

I have a 77' 70hp Evinrude. This motor ran great all day on Sunday. Started fine, idled fine, ran slow fine, ran fast fine. No sputtering of any kind. We had worked our way about 2-3 miles down river. At the end of the day we started back to the launch, started the boat and headed back. I had the motor at about 3/4 throttle most of the way. The motor started to run then want to die, run the want to die. It was like turning the key on then off, on then off. When pulled back to an idle while in gear motor would sound so-so but still I think it was looking for more gas. Just enough power to get it on the trailer. I recently put a new inline gas filter on. Could the problem be there? Thanks for your help.

it sounds as if it may be sucking air into the fuel line. your recent addition of the inline fuel filter may be the culprit. i've had a similar problem when one of the fuel connectors wasn't fully engaged. ran fine at first, then started to bog, and finally wouldn't run under load.

matt

If it had been running ok on previous trips out and now this after you changed something, something is wrong with what you changed. Either the part is bad, or installed incorrectly, or by changing it you disturbed something else.

Mark

Double check the filter to make sure it's facing the correct direction. Should have an arrow on it...
