Running out of time and this boat still doesn't start!

My 15 foot with an Evinrude 48SPL outboard is being a real pain. Where my nephew had it beached he was given 30 days by Fish & Wildlife to remove it. Where it is I can't get down to with a vehicle. It ran 2 weeks before my nephew gave it to me, but I've been working on it when I can and it still doesn't start. I know it has to be something easy. Problem is it has to be removed from where it is by this Thursday. I've got fuel to the carbs (fuel had water, but I took care of that), but no spark. There was a problem with the coil so i replaced it and spark plugs. The coil was original, but doesn't fit the description for a 1989 48 SPL, which it is. The coil was for a 45 hp. Book says 1989 48SPL has 2 coils, but mine has 1 the same as a 45 hp. Anyway, I'm thinking it might be the power pack, but don't know how to check it or what else it could be. Any help is appreciated, as always.

Is the kill switch lanyard in place on the control box? If someone pulled that there will be no spark.

If you can post the model number that would help with the coil question.

If the emergency key is in place....

If the engine has a large red plug at the engine that connects the wire harness running forward to the engine harness, disconnect it and jump the starter solenoid to see if it will start. If it does, REMEMBER, the engine will have to be choked out to stop it.

NOTE TO SILVERTIP: Did you see JB's note on permission to use the wiring diagram in the FAQ's? It's in the elelctrical forum.

Thanks to you all for your help. I will answer your questions. Yes, the kill switch lanyard/emergency key is in place. To tow it they say will cost me about $550. and that's way too much. I do not have the model # here, but I know the last numbers "SLCE", and I think it starts with V48, but not exactly sure about the "V". The one coil pack has two coils in one so perhaps that is what is confusing me. Still trying to solve the mystery. Again many thanks for what you all have come up with and anything else you may come up with to help.

The correct model # for my Evinrude is actually: E48ESLCE. Sorry for the wrong numbers.

George... this may sound stupid but I would honestly hang out at the boat ramp and whenever someone comes to put there boat in... Ask them if they would be willing to assist you. They may be willing to tow ya for free, or you could offer them like $250 or whatever they think its worth? I know its still a bit of money but atleast you will get it back.

The coastguard may even assist you with something like that if its in the saltwater... Im not sure where exactly you are. Just ideas...

Thanks, Neal! Great idea. I'm in Fort walton Beach, Florida (near Pensacola) so it is definately salt water. The boat ramp idea is great...I hadn't thought of it. Again thanks!

george email me at kajun29 at yahoo dot com and i can hook you up with some boaters in that area that could possibly help you out....

also for $150 a year a seatow membership is a great thing to have..unlimited towing anywhere you are is a nice piece of mind.
