I have a 1990 25ft bayliner and last summer when I would try to open it up and have it plane-out, it would only run about 3,000rpms. I have only owned it for 4 yrs, but I have never had this problem. I was thinking it might be the throttle? could it be the engine? The engine does not sound any different or make any unusually sounds. When
I have more then 4 people on-board the boat it just does not move like it has in the past. I have also put dolphine finns on the prop to help and this has failed as well. Any suggestions?

Re: running problems

Tommays,
Thanks for getting back, the motor is a 250 volvo motor and the outdrive has been replaced twice. Once before I bought it and I had it replaced 2yrs ago. I'm not sure if that would cause anything?

Re: running problems

Is this your engine? Volvo 250SP
The first things we need to know, did you check the fuel filters for water?
You could also be getting air in the fuel system between the tank and fuel pump. Any fitting with loose or wrong type clamps will do it. clogged screen on the tank pick up, partially plugged anti siphon valve.
Could also be plugged up flame arrestor.
How about the tuneup. When was the last time it had new plugs, cap, rotor, points, and condenser. Along with setting the timing and checking the advance timing.
Is the timing belt in good condition.
Have you done a compression check?
That's a few things to get you started.

Calm Water,

You stated,"When
I have more then 4 people on-board the boat it just does not move like it has in the past."
Does it run okay with less than 4?
There is a hint here that you could be carrying a load of water between the hulls. Not that familiar with your boat, but there could be water in there.

UD
