after a carb rebuild my 86 mercruiser 1410 is running very rich, when the engine starts I get black smoke out of the exhaust, black sut on the transom, and it has a stonger fuel smell than usual. What adjustments can be made. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: running rich

assuming the carb has been put together correctly-check the choke setting and the float level.

Re: running rich

Can you supply the make and Model, and how many Barrel carb you have ?

Float adjustments, Metering Rod adjustments, Air bleeds Plugged, Wrong gasket kits, leaks in Gross OR main meter jets, Choke Plate sticking...Can all cause Rich Conditions. Is this Rich Condition happen coming off Idle, at Idle , Or Cruising ?

You may need to adjust your idle mixture screws if you just rebuilt your carb
