Hi all,

I was wondering, is it ok to run the motor (25hp Merc) with the muffs on and put it into gear, etc...? I put the boat in the water and it would die after I put it into gear. I would like to trouble shoot the problem while on the trailer.

Re: Running with Muffs On

Most will tell you no just for the safety factor of the prop spinning but yes it can be done. May not help you though, because it sounds like you have to have the boat under a load, which means in the water where the prop is pushing the boat. You run it out of the water on muffs you take away that load. I'm not saying don't try but it just may not help you.

Just make sure there aren't any kids or dogs around and I'd do it. Just don't take the rpms to high. There designed to be run under load.
