1977 johnson 115 outboard...
recently rebuilt
compression good across all chambers
rebbuilt carbs

question:
IF i can get it in gear without it dying, it runs awesome. if i come down to idle it instantly dies.starts back up..put it in gear it dies...starts back up....etc...
what other options can i look at? maybe tear the carbs down again?
on my motor what is the optimum gas/oil ratio?
book says 24:1
doesn't smoke at WOT, only a little at first start upthen there after it dies, upon starting it smokes...then clears up.
i have new impeller, clean oil in my foot (yes i had leaky seals, fixed them today)
any ideas....
i'm holding off on a mechanic cause 55$ an hour i'd like to spend on gas & oil....

after thought.....would a missing thermostat cause this?
and is it normal for a 2 cycle to have oil puddles under the carbs ?
i don't know, i'm only used to cars in that area
