Runs on High idle but won't run in gear

70's Evinrude not sure if it is 65 70 or 75 but it will start on high idle sounds good won't stay running in gear when dealer mounted it was supposed to rebuild. Changed fuel lines and pumped fuel by hand no difference. Had compression checked 100 plus all 3 cylinders. Any help to get started would be great when I get numbers I will post them.

Wanted to make little edit to post dealer was to rebuild carbs charged $75 each and also hooked steering backwards. I have 78 75hp and know what the carbs are like going to check them this week. Any other thing I should look at?

I'd check spark with an open air gap tester before cleaning the carbs just to rule it out. An engine can run under no load with somewhat weak spark on one or more cylinders.
You said comp was 100+, was the highest and lowest within ten %?

All 3 within 2 psi of each other work with guy who checked it said they were very close. I have spark tester will check this week. I should set at 7/16 if memory serves me right? We have 5 of these 3 cylinder rudes in our group all between 73-78 and they keep us on our toes never the same trouble but we are learning

Found out that it's a 73 65hp Johnson with Evinrude paint and 70 Evinrude hood so we are at least looking at little more info now.
