Uh oh...maybe that movie Red Dawn is coming true. Everyone RUN and don't come out of your hiding place until I call you. (By the way, if the radiator has a leak, I'm not helping).

That would be cool to watch training go on with different militaries. I camp on Coronado Island, which is across the bay from San Diego, and that's where the SEALS do their training and it's in the flight path of Naval Air Station North Island. So, there's either aircraft overhead or ordinance going off in the background.

Looks like one of the choppers from Rambo II.

I'd be more worried about who the Russians sold the chopper to(if it wasn't the USAF;)).

There are a handful of civilian owned Hinds. The U.S. Army owns several Mi-24s and given the location of the photo, that's probably one of the Hinds from The Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, LA.

And that's what made me think of Fort Polk, LA or the Test Activity folks out of Fort Rucker, AL. JRTC and NTC in California used mostly Hind replicas, but when the wall came down they were able to more easily acquire the real thing. Replcas are still cheaper to operate, but are a poor likeness of the real thing.

They are a beast of an aircraft. I remember many years ago, I looked out my office window and saw a Mi-24 Hind pulling into our parking ramp next to the AH-64 Apaches.

They were part of Test Activity enroute from California to Fort Rucker, AL.

If I would have seen this 20+ years ago, i may have been concerned.I have heard unconfirmed stories that we imported a variety of Soviet built aircraft, including Mig-29s, from Iraq and "Americanized"them with American engines and avionics to use in training.

It was about twenty years ago when the Hind pulled into Apache parking. We were in Texas, so I wasn't really concerned. It was fun when I casually walked into the commander's office and asked him if he knew there was a Hind parking with the Apaches.

It took a second for it to register and then, "WTH did you just say!!":D

The aircraft is built like a tank and I've read it has similiar flight characteristics.
