The saga continues. I've pulled my bellows in preparation for the new ones. I'm getting ready to pull the gimbal bearing and found that the lower section of the housing around the bearing has rusted and cracked off. Will the new bellows be able to seal in spite of this damage?

You need a new transom shield. The bottom section that supports the bellows has rotted off.
There is a One time fix you could fix that with, but you will never be able to just replace a bellows again. It's just an expensive way to make a temporary fix while you find the part to fix it in the off season.

That happened because water was trapped in the bellows for quite a while and the aluminum rotted away.
You must have missed the slow leak for a while.
