back-flush the cooling lines.

I would also check manifolds and risers

was this a salt-water boat at one time?

It was purchased in Fla.with bad engine/outdrive and repowered with donor boat but it might have not been salt water power .

Didn;t get all the gaskets n thermostat,Vcc out t stat cover and top hoses put back and tried not enough water ,pulled big hose from PS heat exchanger to housing still not good .I guess the impeller in my new SE106 must be toast never worked as old one pushed out prop and holes in outer housing .

unless you damaged the impeller by running the motor without water, the sei impeller should be fine.Start by removing the drive and inserting a hose into the water inlet hole. The connecting hose is known to kink or collapse internally also.when was that replaced?
Have to agree that with flakes that big the manifolds and risers cant be far behind to fail soon.

Bt I ran the engine for a while when I pulled the old 228 M/R outdrive , was surprised when trying to figure out how to hook water to that the hole was tapped to 3/4 NPT .I had good flow ,also what do I need to watch for If exhaust manifold and risers fail ? Water in oil or cylinders ,or worse hydra locked ?

Well I thought I'd update the water flow problem was caused by yours truly . When I assembled the lower to the upper the tube missed its guided tube and I didn't think to look at till pulled again . The impeller was good .
