My youngest son left one of my vinyl cushions sitting face down on top of a tool chest that was rusting badly...and 4 months later this is what I had:
You can even guess what color the tool chest is...there is paint from it attached to the rust stains on the fabric.
I decided that this cushion was 'history', so I tried an old wife?s tale remedy to 'rust on vinyl'. This worked out well, since all that I needed was already in my kitchen cabinet: table salt and lemon juice! I mixed the two ingredients into a paste, and spread this on the stains:
I waited for about 3 days, and added some water (the salt had crystallized) and worked it over the stains with my finger. Left this alone for another 4 days.
Today I rinsed the cushion with a hose, and this is how it turned out:
If you look hard enough you will see several rust stains remaining...but this cushion will not need to be replaced!
Keep in mind that this will not work if you are trying to do this for your scheduled run in the morning...but if you have the time, and the lemons (I ended up using 4) then you might give this a try!
Happy boating!
