I see many here use Rustolem and I am thinking that I will do the same on my pontoon siding. Are people using the Topside paint or just regular Rustoleum, does it matter?

Not 100% sure, but I think you need to do slightly different prep for aluminum, then I believe Rustoleum will work.
Hopefully someone with more experience with this will chime in soon...

Don't most people use etch primer for aluminum?

Light coat of Zinc Chromate after proper prep, which I am not sure, but I believe it involves good cleaning, some sand, if needed and a wash down with either TSP or a water vinegar solution...:noidea:

Re: Rustoleum for painting pontoon siding

Clean the aluminum with soap/water

Reclean the aluminum with Alumiprep or equivelent

Rinse with water

Scuff the surface and wipe with acetone or such to remove grit.

Prime with either Alodyne, an etching primer, ZC primer, epoxy primer, ect

Then you can seal it with rustoleum metal primer, block it straight, then topcoat.

You will be best served to use the Alumiprep 1st..IMO
