Rustoleum Marine Paint

Do of you fine members happen to have any pictures of their boats with the Rustoleum Red or Blue paint?

I'm curious to see what these colors look like on a boat. Going to be painting mine and have been thinking I'd like to do it in a dark blue but I also already have some red that I was going to use on another project that is still unused.

Ha bonz_d, you could take a side profile picture of your boat and use a photoshop type program to see what it would look like. JMHO!

Not really trying to picture what this one will look like, more as I'm trying to determine the shade of the red and blue that Rustoleum turns out.

I've thought of using the red I have but I don't want to give people the impression that I'm trying to turn this into a Lund.

I am really partial to red colors, but the blue look really nice on the boat. I guess it boils down to personal opinions for this one. :noidea:

I really like the red and blues offered in the Ace Hardware brand of rustoleum: Rust Stop

I tried to find a color chart online, but didn't. IMO, offers lots more color choices then Rusto does, same enamel. They will color tint from a color sample or to slightly change an off the shelf blue or red, if the particular Ace has the color matching setup, not all do.

Thanks guys, I guess I have a choice to open this red and do a test patch. I can pick this paint up at most Ace stores. Also looked at the Duralux paint someone else has mentioned in another thread and from what I have read it is available thru any Home Depot store and is only about $16.00 a qt. If they had a darker blue I would have given it a try. I figure I'll need about 2qts. to do this.

Wood, it is kind of hard to get a feel for the blue boat you pictured because of the shadows but thanks for posting it.

Thanks Corjen1 that is much appreciated. That is pretty close to what I'm looking for. If it was 2 shades darker it would be perfect. Though I don't think I'm going to find a flag blue w/o spending more than I want to.

Ace wont tint match their Rust Stop to get THE blue your after? Maybe you can mix Royal and Navy blue?

Still undecided as to the color choice. I'm going to open the red I already have and do a test swatch otherwise there is a marine dealer about 45min away that can get me the Flag Blue in Interlux Brightsides. Only drawback is it's about $45.00 a qt. Not sure that I want to put $100.00 worth of paint on a boat that I only paid $450.00 for.

Honestly bonz_d, if you are going to spend that type money for maybe a correct color hue, you can easily go to any auto paint store and pick exactly what you want for paint and it will cost a little less then that. And it will be impervious to oils and fuel when cured as well. I thought the main reason to use Rustoleum paints was for the reduced cost. But at $45 dollars a quart, you can buy a lot of quality auto paints that YOU can pick any color in the rainbow OR even have a special hue mixed. I think it is easier to spray and certainly dries/cures quicker and is a very good choice for paint. JMHO!

gm, I follow what you are stating completely which is why I've so far shied away from the Interlux, because of the cost.

2 things that I have always readily admitted is that I'm not a welder and I'm not a painter. Over my years I've seen artists in both of those fields and all I can do is watch in awe. To watch someone tig weld thin gauge stainless sheet metal and to be able to clean it so that the seam is never seen such as a Sanitary weld for the food industry. I can't do it. Or to watch my ex-brother-in-law shoot candies and pearls on street rods just leaves me dumbfounded. I don't have that talent and easily admit it.

So I opened that red this morning and boy is it bright! It is not as dark as the maroon red that Lake Lover used on his StarCraft. So I think I'm going to just bite the bullet and use this red even though I kind of wanted to do this in blue. Also at one time thought about black but it seems everyone these days are doing black.

So picture this, Red panels on the sides with one of these graphics to accent it.

Okay bonz_d, I understand what you're saying. However, don't count yourself short. I've seen your work and it is very well above a ton of others I've seen. I will agree that welding and painting are learned skills, but everybody can learn them to some extent. The real difference between great welders and painters and the typical average guy/gal, is PRACTICE! And if you do that daily, of course you will be good at it. So don't discount your abilities so fast. JMHO!

As for the red being "BRIGHT", You may try to put some on a piece of poster board and allow it to dry before knowing the true color. Some times the color in the can looks totally different once it is applied and cured/dried. Either way, I know you will make it look great. As for the graphics. I like both, but the second one would be a little less busy and blend better in my opinion. But we all have different likes and dislikes. And therefore I know which ever you chose will look amazing as well. I trust you! :thumb:

Just returned from the garage and boy it's cold in there. But then it's only 50 outside today. Have got some plastic sheeting coming to try and close up this old building a little more and get some heat in it.. These old bones chill fast!

I'm also leaning towards the simpler design and after a quick measurement it will also fit better. At least with some kind of graphic on the sides It won't look so much like a Lund. So much for a quick project huh?
