I'm using Rustoleum to paint a 15 ft alum Starcraft and was wondering if anyone has used the the regular enamel paint with any luck? (not the Professional line). The reason is the Professional only comes in gallons and I am custom mixing a turquoise color from blue, white and green and would like to use quarts or even the small pints.

Re: Rustoleum question

You can go into a paint store and custom mix a gallon, using their pigments. Plus side is once you get that color you want, you will have a print out of the exact mix allowing for fairly easy purchase of touch-up paint. If you look at rustoleum.com you can find a retailer near you, i live in a small town and there are 15 within 50 miles

No one I called will do Rustoleum with their pigments...they will mix the paint for you after you buy it-A gallon for each color!...Anybody ever mix their own paint with acrylics or use the non-professional Rustoleum?

Re: Rustoleum question

Member Woodonglass has posted extensive info on this. I don't have the link on hand but if you search his threads you'll find how he says to use an acrylic paint in tubes from a craft store or something like that.

Yes the regular stuff will work just fine for a trailered boat. Been there done that. I would still add in hardener from Tractor supply just be advised......... custom color is HARD to match if you ever need to touch up in the future.

Any acrylic enamel will work as long as it is oil based. With the haredener you'll get a very durable surface. Page #10 in my My Flamingo Thread listed below will give you the details. Make sure and take good notes on your mixing ratios and be precise when measuring, so you will be able duplicate the mix if needed. I have mine on paper and laminated. I already mixed a touch up batch and it matched perfectly.
