Rusty Spindles

Started going through the bearings today and found a worn out rear seal caused by a very rusty spindle. I took some emory cloth and after about 5 minutes started to see some metal but I have a way to go before it would all be cleaned up. How much sanding can I do before a new seal would no longer seal? This is a 1999 Magic Tilt Tandem Aluminum Trailer, the spindles appear to be welded onto the axle, I suspect the other 3 will look the same.

Ayuh,..... Look into Speedy-Sleeves...

They're a press fit SSteel sleeve to save rusty quills... they'll save a grooved spindle too,...
It gives ya a Brand new seal surface...

Yep we use them alot on big rigs. I keep at least two complete kits with me at all times. I have used them on regular trailers as well. The best part is you can get them in stainless steel. Makes for a quick and permanent fix.
