I just bought a used Quicksilver stainless prop for my Pre-Alpha outdrive. I'll be using it in fresh water on a boat that is trailered when not in use. The prop is in good shape, except for the fact that it has small rust spots throughout the entire prop, and one of the blades has a small hole in it around 3/4" in from the edge. Any ideas on how to polish it out? I tried a buffing wheel and realized that even with a high grit compound, it would have taken forever to polish it out. What could have caused the hole in it? Is it common for these props to rust?

I didn't know stainless steel would rust. What would be the point of using stainless?
Is the hole rusted through or was it drilled?
To clean it up I would think grinding would be required.
But the prop must be balanced.
At least you should send it out to a shop that repairs props.

Prop may have been in salt water and/or could have been exposed to some strange electrolosis problem.from the boat or a boat slipped near by or even some fault in the electrics at the marina.Stainless comes in various grades
don't know typical prop grade but a magnet will stick to lower grades.
