I am going to be using my 250 Mercruser (Chevy 5.7) with a RWC system in Salt water for a few months, and would like to know if connecting fresh water to the backflush plug, run clean fresh water then pub on a set of muffs with the hose fitting blocked will help keep the salt a bay?

Are you asking if you should rinse/run your motor with fresh water when you have hauled out from the sea? If so, just put on the muffs and run the motor up to temp, till the thermostate opens and circulates fresh water thru the motor.

I am not able to haul the boat out. That is the problem. Let me start again. After using the boat, I moore her. open the back flush port, run fresh water through the system and then close off the intake ports on the lower unit. leaving fresh water in the jacket, and exhaust manafolds. my question is will this work?

Oh! Sorry not familiar with that set up but it sounds good. There are anti salt additives that you might look into to add to your system once you shut it down. Not sure how you apply the material but I rigged my system to add antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor to the manifolds for storage. See the Tee fittings with brass allen plugs, in the manifold supply lines. I just back out the plugs and pour in the antifreeze. Not sure how you'd get it in your block tho.

Well, personally I need some more information. DO you have an Alpha drive? What Year?
You may be able to plumb in a flush system, there are several on the market and use something like SaltAway to flush with. But we need to know where your raw water pump is. Drive? Engine?
Here is a link to the saltaway site.

http://www.saltawayproducts.com/

Your approach will work fine for those several months. Just make sure full hose pressure is used, and don't rev engine above idle. Full hose pressure and engine idle will make sure your RW pump doesn't pull salt water in along with the fresh water. In fact, some FW may actually blow back out through the outdrive, even at mooring.
