S/N4967373 Attn: Merc Buffs What is this?

It says a 150 hp blackmax 1500 on the cover. What year? What kind of rep do these things have? Haven't put it in the water yet but it fires right up and idles nice with even compression. I bought with the intent of selling it but if it's servicable I'd be crazy not to try it. It's on a 79 22' Starcraft.

First off, if it says 1500 on the cowling then it's a 1978 or older.

S/N comes up as a 1978.

I really can't say as I have never owned a V-6 Merc. Someone else should chime in on this one soon.

I've decided I'm only going to get this working properly and sell it. If i'm going to run way offshore I'm not going to trust a 70's outboard,
