Sacrificial Trim Anode Question

I want to replace all of my sacrificial anodes on my stern drive. I use in fresh water only, so magnesium is what I'm shooting for. Why is it that original equipment above my prop is a trim tab with a little fin so I can feel steering changes when worn, yet most replacement kits have a flat plate instead? In the Mercury manual #14, dated April 2001, page 1B-14, it reads 'an anodic plate is the new service replacement for the anodic trim tab'. What is going on? I want to replace what's on my drive with the same style. Any ideas?

Re: Sacrificial Trim Anode Question

if the engine is equipped with power steering, the trim tab/anode will not do a whole lot

the trim tab/anode is designed for boats that have engines without power steering

if yopu have power steering, you will be fine with the flat anode

Re: Sacrificial Trim Anode Question

Are your anodes worn away? Why would you change them if you only boat in fresh water? Do you leave your boat moored 24/7 in the water?
