I just wanted to say thank you to all who helped me get my 1990 Johnson 140hp running great. After all the work and money that went into it, I was out running over the weekend and at full speed I hit an unmarked broken piling in 9 foot of water. The poor motor now has a destroyed lower unit and the power head is locked up. The hull is fine...stainless steel prop had no give and took the lower unit and motor.. Scared the living $%!# out of me..... At 4800 rpm....made one hell of a noise...anyways...I have a 1998 Johnson 150 that I am pulling out of storage. Hopefully this one will not meet the same fate.

Thanks again...Love this site!!

Bummer. I recently had to replace the lower unit on my '79 235 from an obstacle strike last year in the gulf. I was lucky to have been running an aluminum prop. It shredded the prop, bent prop shaft, sheared skeg completely off, and cracked gear case up to the drain plug orifice!!
Thankfully, all is well on that front, new bottom end working great, sadly, I can't make forward speed due to some sort of gremlin that's giving me some grief right now...
Good luck with the 150!!

must of hit the skeg to do so much damage, the prop alone would not do that much, if it did the boat would of turned around or ripped the transom .clean off.
now you really need to find out who is responsible for the water your boat was in and why no signs of the broken pile were in place or marker bouys.
might even get your engine paid for repairs or replacement ???
