A Jet Skier is facing criminal charges and a boater is dead following a Sunday crash on Lake McConaughy in west-central Nebraska.
The driver of the Jet Ski was Andrew Schmidt, 36, from Castle Rock, Colo.
At about 2:40 p.m. MDT, the Jet Ski crashed into an estimated 20- to 25-foot boat, killing Richard Carolselli, the 64-year-old Brighton, Colo., man behind the boat's wheel, said Keith County Attorney Randy Fair.
Caroselli's daughter, Angela Lubahn, 37, and two granddaughters, Ashley, 16, and Mikayla Lubahn, 14, were injured. A son-in-law, Thomas Lubahn, 38, was not injured.
Fair said the injured were released from a hospital and had returned home to Colorado.
Schmidt, who also suffered undisclosed injuries, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and reckless and negligent operation of a personal watercraft, Fair said.
The investigation into the case continues.
The crash happened in the Martin Bay area, which is one of the most heavily used areas at the lake.
Initial reports are that the boat was cruising slowly into a boat dock when the jet ski slammed into the passenger side of the boat and landed in it, Fair said..
Not sure what to say other then unfortunately a man lost his life on a vacation day in front of his family, the irony is that I think I know the man that has been charged in the death....
