I acquired a long shaft seagull called 'british silver seagull' number 585ff4
Could you tell me the horse power of this engine and the points gap
Also there is no spark when plug is touched to the block.
Anybody has any ideas on this?

Thanks,

John.

Re: saegull

if you get the numbers on the side ill let you know.
Points gap 0.020 in. (0,5 mm).
fuel ratio is 10 parts fuel to 1 part oil, yes 10 -1 ratio. unless its newer than about 1978. then 25-1 ratio.

they do like a drop of 2 stroke oil ha ha
gearbox oil is sae 140 weight oil, it needs to be a very heavy oil due to the seals not being so great and the
undustrial type gears inside.

these engines can take so much abuse its unreal, and will push boats that you think its impossible for
a little engine to push

there is tons of information on the net about the British Seagull engines.
