Safe to raise my motor ?

Hello,<br /><br />To make my anti ventilation plate (cavitation plate) floating on the surface i have to raise my motor for about 1 inch.<br />I want to realise that by placing little wood blocks under the bracket.<br />But when i do that the srews from my bracket are almost on the transom.<br />Can anybody tell me if i can do this without damaging my stern? or is this risky?<br /><br />thanks in advance,<br />jan

What size motor are you talking? I did it on my 25hp evinrude that was on my 14' Jon, and I noticed a difference right away. Just make sure that the cavitation plate is no higher than the bottom of the hull.

I also may raise my motor. Its only a 15hp. I am thinking of putting a block of wood on top of the transom and then sandwiching the transom and block of wood between 2 pieces of aluminum plates and bolting the plates together through the transom.

i did that also i used rubber blocks under the engine. my cavatation plate is still lower then the bottom of the boat but it seems to plane easyer i used wood to sandwich the transom it cuts way down on vibration

On my '64 Glastron 14', there's a 2x2 block to raise the '64 40 hp 'rude, and the anti-ventilation plate is still no higher than the bottom of the transom.

Hi peeps,<br /><br />thanks for the repies.<br /><br />I use an old 1972 evinrude 20hp short on a yam 360s inflatable.<br />My anti ventilation plate is about 1 inch under the hull of my boat.<br />The a c plate is not comming out of the water when i am in plane.<br />thats why i want to raise my motor 1 inch, but i need to know for sure if there any risk for my stern because i think more weight is on the transom this way?<br /><br />Nathan in Arkansas (or others), you said that you noticed a difference right away.<br />is this a difference in performance or in the controllability from the boat?<br />When i going to do this i do this to get a better performance.<br />Wil it make a big difference in performance?<br />If we talking about only 1 mph i don't know if it is worth all the work for me?<br /><br />greets,<br />jan

You can also use the small jackplate from Bobs Machine (MMJ). Its under 100.00 and gives you a little set back as well. Check out the June 2003 issue of Bass & Walleye - "100 ways to know jack".<br /><br />Good info!

I saw an old test with a 40 merc on a 12 ft Penn Yan Swift 1 inch gave almost 3 mph.<br /> Motor trim (in and out)will help as well,along with weight distribution.

Hi there,<br /><br />I raised my outboard.<br />I placed 2 wood blocks under the bracket.<br />the screws from the bracket are exactly on the edge from a plastic plate on my stern. that scares me a little but everything seems to be ok.<br /><br />the boat is going in plane a little faster and i get rid of the spurting water comming from the outboard into my boat.<br />and also the boat is steer a little more lighter<br />but i don't know if there is any improvement in the performance, hard to tell.<br />My anti ventilationplate is stil about 1/2 inch under water when in plane but i can not raise the motor any further so i have to do it whith what it is now.<br /><br />i want to thank everybody for the the tips.<br /><br />greets,<br />jan
