guys, is there an auto shut off switch that I can change on
my regular manual switch for the bilge pump ?? Something with a timer on it, like 10mins or something, so that it shuts off by itself if I forget.
sometimes, I flick it on by mistake and forget to turn it off,
and once I burnt the pump this way.

thanks

I installed a float switch, I turn it on and forget about it. If water starts to accululate the float rises and turns on the bilge pump automaticlly. As soon as the water level goes down to about 3/4" the float switch turns the pump off.

You can add an audible horn from Radio Shack for about three bucks. It will sound off until the pump is shut off. But the proper thing to do is install a float switch. Set the master switch to AUTO and go boating. It will run only when needed.

The float switch is the only way to go. It starts up even if you don't know it needs to be turned on. But if you do turn it on with the switch you can still forget to turn it off.

Re: safety auto off switch for bilge pump ??

When I launch in the spring, my bilge switch is turned on until I put the boat away at the end of the season. I use a float switch as suggested. If for some reason the pump starts cycling a bunch, then it will let you know you have a problem before you realize you have way to much water in your boat. Since I dock seasonally, I have a backup pump on another float switch with each powered by a different battery. I never want to go to the lake to find my boat sitting on the bottom at the dock. Spoils a weekend in a hurry if not the season.

I have two bilge pumps.

One an automatic 1100 gph, fused and attached directly to the deep cycle battery.

Backup is a 3700 gph on a float switch, fused. This has a On Off Auto switch with a red indicator light. The switch is on the dash and it is also directly attached to the deep cycle battery.

Since i trailer the boat, turn to Auto as we launch, turn to Off with tie down to the trailer.
