sage advice for newbies.

I and many others are new to boating. I was wondering what all this means. Like prop size, pitch, max rpm, how to select the proper prop for your boat. If anyone with more knowledge than me can help it would greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help.

size is ur prop diamter, pitch is the cut or twist. sorta like an airplane prop. max rpm is what engine should and also will attain. usually u want a pitch and size to be 200 rpms or so under at WOT. most props for boats 40' and under are well designed for the job at hand. until u r a prop expert... go with the stock prop for ur eng size, given that it is suited to ur boat size use...

Lakester, no problem with the advise, but there is no such thing as a "stock" prop on anything over about 40hp....never has been.
In most cases, it gets whatever the dealer has on hand that he thinks will be close with no real concern for design. Props are available today that cost the same and even less than those that were installed when the engine was mounted new. With the price of gas today, the person with the most efficient set-up wins all-around.
