hey I know this is going to come out kind of odd but I need some suggestion on sailboat nav lights I know that I need a bow and stern deck lights but the mas lights kind of have me messed up as in what I need and how to go about installing them since the mast is taken down for trailering. If it helps this is for a American 16.

Thanks,
yonu

If you have the red/green bow lights, and the white stern light already, the only other light you may need is a white light up on the mast, if you will be using a motor.
This information should be readily available on the web. Check out the Coast Guard website, or see what is called the Colregs, regulations for avoiding collision at sea.

Yeah a 16ft at night. I am planning a couple of overnight trips (I figure i have a 2 bunk cuddy I want to use it)and am planning to use led bulbs and a 9ah sealed battery based on current draw it should give me at least 8hrs lights.

Thanks,

Re: sailboat nav lights

a sailboat with a motor running is a motor boat.
Under 26 ft, the minimum you need is a red/green on the bow, and an all around (360 deg) white on a 4ft pole on the stern. Just like a 16 ft skiboat would have. You don't have to have a mast light(called a steaming light). The all around white on the stern qualifies for that. Do it on two switches though because if you anchor, you're supposed to turn off the red/green running lights. If done with all LED light's you won't pull squat for amps and a smallish battery will do, but PERSONALLY, I'd have to throw in a stereo, and more lighting for camping, so I would carry more battery!
Good luck, I just started overnighting on my sailboat too and having a good time.
