My johnson 200 dont pee like it should and one head feels slightly hotter than the other. I removed both thermostats (broke one bolt #$*^%*$&^$) both thermostats where stuck open just enough to let water through. with them removed I can see alot of salt deposits in the head. Is there anything I can pour in there to help remove the deposits WITHOUT removing the heads? I fear many broken bolts going down that path! Maybe watered down muratic acid?

Re: Salt deposits

There's a product called Salt Away which I think would be way safer to use and is expressly made for this use.

Im pretty sure muriatic would fry your impeller and any rubber gaskets it finds, you'll have to back flush with preferably warm fresh water for an extended period of time to dissolve and remove the salt. Maybe theres something out there, im just a fresh water guy but id be spooked to use acid in any motor.

Try doing some freshwater running or rig up a 55gal drum to run the motor in. I don't know of any safe additive for disolving salt except fresh water.

Re: Salt deposits

the is one way to remove the buldup in the motor and dont harm the seals at all.you use a 55 gal drum and mix about30% of veniger with in the water,i first tat to it will be a joke a old boat repiar guy tell me but i did it on my 2 175 and it works like a champ hat them runing one at the time for about 45 min in better idle.put about at 15 min some more fresh water in it to keep the water cool.but it works
