Salt water in old rude worries

i have a 1968 18hp evinrude that has been run in salt water several times when it did not get flushed with fresh h2o afterwards. what kind of damage could occur and what can be done about it?

Those old J/Es were never recommended to be flushed. If you plan to use it in saltwater regularly, I would flush at the end of the season, and not worry about it in between.

Don't be fretting about it. Give it a good run in fresh water. Water is the solvent for salt, nothing else is needed. However, nothing will disolve the aluminum oxide corrosion once it happens. At least not without disolving the rest of the motor too. But a few times isn't going to kill it.
