I went to check out a used boat with a 1996 johnson 150hp saltwater moter
and found water in the lower unit. the owner put the boat in the shop to have new seals installed . is this a deal killer  The drain plug had no metal shavings on the magnet. there was a tiny amount of super super fine particals that i would expect from normal wear and tear. Other than that the boat checked out great i really would like to buy it. Should I walk away or stay?

Water in the foot should not be a deal breaker, dh. The most common cause is re-use of the gaskets under the Drain/fill and Vent plugs, but if the seals are bad they will soon be replaced.

Walk away or stay? That depends on a lot of other stuff.

Good luck. :)

i would be more worried about what salt water has done to rest of the motor. getting fasteners apart can be very difficult
