Harbor patrol informed me that my new 8HP outboard in the tilt-up position made my sailboat too long for the slip. Therefore I have to keep it in the down position in the saltwater. Anyone here dealt with using a container to put over the shaft before lowering the engine? Bought a garbage can, but it is pretty buoyant and tough to lower the engine with. Thinking about thick mil plastic bags to swing over the shaft. Does anyone know if this will help or if someone has found another type of solution? Hate to think of my new motor just sitting there in the water deteriorating.
