Have the same issue with low speed? Starts great runs great to about nine miles an hour. Then there is nothing else?
The RPMs don't rise, the speed will not go up.and still have about half the throttle to go?
I think it is a timing issue? Had a heat problem, but that is fixed. Thought that was issue.
If the timing is off ,will it hit a flat spot where it will no longer gain rpms or speed ? My mech. Was not as good as I thought. Have had to redo almost everything he did. I think this is another point I need to address?
If the timing is off,can it still start well.and run good to the point that it dose not advance anymore and just bottom out there?.
Thanks,for any and all input.

Do you have a timing light? pretty easy to check. Also check the advance.

Yes, it can idle/run great with the timing way off, if there is no load on the motor.

Along with Capts comments, set the dwell on the points before setting the timing. These engines like 62? or 63? for best idle and running.

Idle mixture can also give you a hesitation on throttle up, but will not cause a low wot rpm.

Re: Same low speed issue?

Thank you.
My last Mech. Kinda was a let down. Have redone almost everything he did. I felt like the rpms were to low at idle . The tac has not been right since he fixed it?.I used a separate tac and it was set too low.and the timing was set to that. So I readjusted the idle ,and re set the timing. Seems to be much better. Will run her this weekend and go from there. Any thoughts on electronic ignition conversion on this type boat?
Thanks as always , I boats rules for sure!

I have a dwell meter, and think I'm doing it right? Do you have a sight where I can get the info I need to be sure I'm doing it right? I know the dwell needs to be spot on to run really well.
Thanks again!
