You know I left the tractor forums just because of this oil bashing. Guess that's why when you go to the store, there are more kinds of oil on the shelf than there are kinds of bread on the grocer's shelf.

Mark

OIL = misterious elixor that cures warts, hair loss, belly aches, headaches, muscle spasms, fever, and the common cold. Apply to your crankcase or gas tank in specifed doses. Sold just about everywhere ...sometimes in simple looking plastic jugs, but can be seen in elaborate shiny stickered bottles. Claims include increased horsepower, gas savings, and smoother operation. Makes some users feel all fuzzy inside the more they pay. Some even go to the extreme by wearing shirts diplaying their oil preference to distinguish themselves from simple-minded commoners using STORE BRANDS!!!? ARRGH!!!! OH! The shame of it!!!!

The word(s) for it are, "I know more about oil than you do, BF/LD." added to, "You are ignorant, too."

A turf dispute more than anything is my take on the situation.
This is a big big place, there is plenty of room for all, a bit less ego and all of the animosity is sure to dive for Davy Jones locker.

I hope my posts don't come across that way. I simply want to help members get accurate and factual information about oils. Sometimes correcting someone's mistake, or pointing out their ill-informed bias is part of doing that. When another member posing as an oil guru makes a ill-informed comment or post, he subjects himself to criticism. That's the way it goes. I am by no means a know-it-all, but I have spent most of my life working with, and testing, oils. I don't expect everyone to agree with me or accept criticism. I just enjoy sharing the knowledge that I have worked so hard to attain with others. However, I do not enjoy the resentment by one particular member who insists on making my contributions here at iboats hell.

We all, including your eternal adversary, respect your knowledge, TOD.

Disagreeing without being disagreeable is hard to come by. It is not necessary to accuse someone of being ignorant or in any other way less than respectable or honorable in order to present information you believe more accurate.

Unfortunately, too many of your postings on the subject come across as know-it-all and everyone else is discounted as unworthy of commenting on the topic.

We see you as attacking anyone who offers an opinion that you don't share as challenging your oil guru status. That is a turf war, not an informative discussion.

Thanks JB for youre explanation, obviously I couldnt have said it better.

I honestly do respect TODs knowledge and have to admit to actually learning a few things from his posts, its just his stuff shirted approach that I have problems with and cant help but poke at.

Sorry TOD if it offends you, but its just the way Im stitched together. :) We could probably be buddies in person, but its like rubbing a cat the wrong way here on the forums.

Personally, I'm not a scientist nor do I spend much time discussing or investigating oil. When I go to my local parts store and ask "what oil should I use", I get a different opinion from whoever I ask. The same thing happens here. I can say that TOD has enlightened me, and I for one am always looking forward to his posts, no matter who's feelings get hurt.
LD, don't be so sensitive. It's like you wants to quash any information that doesn't agree with your opinions. Chief, with a smile ;)

I for one appreciate your advice and the knowledge base it seems to come from. I dont' hear any of that "know it all" stuff, just what seems to be an informed opinion. Keep up the good work.

Re: Same old 7 and 6 on Oil

The debates between LD and TOG are great as far as I am concerned. I have learned a ton from their debates and consider myself a better informed consumer. Even though it is often a blood bath, the information from their opposing view points are good. We are all here to gain knowledge and help others with our knowledge and boating experience, and LD and TOG contribute greatly. Little would be learned if we were mindless sheep and took oil company marketing propoganda at face value. It is because of these types of debates that I come here every day....often several times a day. LubeDude and TheOilDoc, thanks for these past couple years of information and entertainment.

Have I ever mentioned that I love the smell of Klotz Synthetic in the morning? :)
