Sand and buff or just buff?

Hey all,
New to the forum. Looking for some advise on how best to deal with the amount of oxidation on my boat. Overall it isn't too bad, just along the waterline and on the stern and a bit on the red color on the bow. I'm definitely a newbie - never wet-sanded anything so I'm a bit apprehensive about it, but willing to give it a shot.

Attached are pictures.

Any feedback and thoughts would be appreciated. As well as product recommendations...

Thanks,
Brew

Re: Sand and buff or just buff?

You will normally start with the least aggressive method, if that doesn't work try the next slightly more aggressive method.

Buff first, if that doesn't work try a coarser compound (several grits are available).

If this works you may be done...but frequently you need to wet sand to remove the worst of it. Again start with a fine grit at first, 1000 will remove a small amount of material and not leave big scratches, so start with that. You may need to use a coarser grit if the 1000 doesn't do it. If you use 600 or 800, you will most likely need to work your way back through 1000 grit to work the scratches out.
