I have taken my thermostat out 3 times this season and cleaned out the sand wedged in there. Is there a thermostat made with larger clearances that would not clog with sand? Yes I know the obvious answer is to stay out of the sand. On the Mighty Mississippi, this can be difficult when approaching sand bars. I just wondered if there was a different thermostat.

I hope you are on top of watching the raw water pump and impellor because that sand is doing a number on them.

Ayuh,... Sand will grind 'em into Junk in no time...

How about a nice chartplotter or fish finder with depth? not sure if the Miss. is charted but if it is, I would be shopping for one.

here are some online charts for the mighty mississippi I found but they don't seem to list the depth which sucks:confused:

If the sand bars are as bad as they look on these charts, I would be getting a plotter.

Garmin recently came out with a Minnesota Lakemaster map CD that has good detail of the Mississippi River down to Iowa border
