I am repairing a wooden boat and need to sand between the ribs on the interior surface of the hull before applying resin and possibly fiberglass to fix some leaks. I was hoping to use a hand-held band sander. There are a number of 1/2 inch tools available but my fear is that the narrowness of the belt could lead to sanding through the hull unless I was really careful. I did find a Makita tool that took a 1 & 1/8 inch belt that might be better. It occurred to me that a flap sander might be a more economic solution. Being new at this I thought I would consult the forum to see what solutions more experienced restorers do under these circumstances.
