Re: Sanding????

I had those spots on mine in the same area. It turned out most of mine was engine oil / sand / dirt / mud. I would recomend you get rid of all that junk especially if you plan to put new glass down in that area. It took a metal or masonary grinding wheel to get into those spots and get that glass out. Becareful, these grinding wheels will easily go through the hull.

Re: Sanding????

It could be water intrusion. Water gets in to the fibers in the resin and it darkens. It should only go in to the surface a small amount. The best idea is to grind it back to good glass to insure you get good adheasion with the new glass. If it goes deep then you need to remove it for sure because that means the boat had a bad spot in the original layup. My boat had several spots like that. After grinding it out you can bring it back level with new glass. I would also taper the area a little to provide a little more strength when the new glass goes back in.

Grind it out. Layup new glass and resin to build it back up. All of the glass should look fresh and clean...
