Look what got delivered today!!!

Eton Detroit Truetrac posi unit. Its pretty cool because it has no clutches to wear out, its all gear drive, smooth as silk and silent. Will easily last the life of the car and always perform the same. It's considerably stronger than the units that came stock in the Firebird.

And a set of 3.73 gears to replace the 3.08 set. Better for towing, acceleration and burnouts! :D

If you are not familiar with the Eation Truetrac, check out this video on how it works:

Re: Santa came early!

I am very excited for you :D

Ahh, a fellow gear head!

Next is an auxiliary trans cooler and engine oil cooler, and if the space allows, a remote double engine oil filter. If space is too tight, a single remote filter will go in. This should allow me to run the miles up pretty high and keep trans and engine wear to a minimum. Plus when towing, it will really pay off in reduced operating temps.

Very nice, im a jealous. The locker I put in was ok for the track but since it has closed im up sh**s creek with it. Should be able to feel a nice difference in acceleration. Tires soon?

That piece is bullet proof for sure. Your car is beautiful, but, I have to know....What do you tow with that? Or better still, why?

It has good tires, so it will probably take about 2 years to wear them out. Although with the new gears that might happen sooner. :D

The factory tires are 235 55 16.

I was looking a Corvette ZR1 wheels (with the blank center) because they are very similar to the factory rims that came on the Firebird. A pair of 17 x 9.5" for the front w/275 40 17 tires, and 17 x 11" for the rear with 315 x35 x 17 for the rear. They are surprisingly affordable, and should make the car track like a steamroller.

So what kind of rubber are you using to handle the greasy boat ramps.

The Detroit locker is awesome. I run one in the back of my F250, and an Aussie in the front. You can only feel the detroit a little bit through turns, otherwise no difference in its street manners. I'm running 38" tires and 5.38 gears. The locker made a huge difference in the trucks off road capability.
Have you beefed up the differential? Those diffs usually only survive due to wheel spin. The locker will reduce the spinning and put more stress on it. Then again, if you hot rod you probably already now most stock items wont last.
Congrats!
