Santa Missed My House!!!!

I ws sorta hoping that I would wake up yesterday morning and find a new 225 or 250 ETEC on the back of my boat to replace my twin 1987 SeaDrives. Alas he must have missed it on my list - - and I been a good boy!!

Anyway if I were to think about this a bit more I wonder what such a repower would cost. I would need:

(This would be on a 1988 23' Wellcraft Fisherman CC.)

225 or 250 ETEC
Bracket to include fiberglassing existing holes
Cables & gages
Could I use the existing hydraulic steering??
Installation & rigging

Any guesses?

I don't think this was yours. Because I did not want socks or ties. I will post pics of my boat once I take some better ones. The ones that the guy emailed my dad say nothing about the boat.

Your gonna need new contols, prop, and a tach. Labor will get you a little. On the other hand you should get something trading in your old motor. Shop around, knowledge and prices very greatly. I have an Etec 50 and I love it, but it's amazing how many Evinrude dealers and techs know next to nothing about these engines. I had one shop tell me they were four strokes, and another Evinrude dealer tell me you had to mix oil in the gas at 100:1. Like any other motor the dealer makes or breaks you.

Solittle, thats what I meant by you gotta look around. The dealer I went to threw all that stuff in with the motor. Other dealers wanted anywhere from $100 to $200 dollars for each. Most wouldn't mention that you had to have the stuff. I paid $5,200 out the door, motor, xtra gear and labor. If you get one make sure your dealer has some knowledge on them. Good luck whichever way you go.

Get hold of your hormones Solittle.......d You can probably double that and then some for a 225. I'm thinging BMB got something substantially smaller.

What you could do is check with dealers on left over models from last years stock. Usually, BRP offers these to dealers at a cheaper prices than what the original stickers were.

Don't know what it's like down around where you live, but dealers up around here will work hard to make a sale during the winter months.

Yep. That looks like it was pricing for a 50 HP. I agree with the last years model idea. They are always looking to unload those. But they may not discount the Etec as much as others...$15,000 for the 225 rigged would be a pretty good price...

Sorry about the confusion, in my first post I mentioned that I have a fifty. But I forgot to post I also traded in a 1985 johnson 40 horse VRO, my bad. btw prices for the fifty varied from around $5,600 to $8,000 from one dealer to the next. This was March 2005.

Damn - - and here I been runnin all around the house collecting pennies and got pretty near the $5,200.00. Ahhh well tis the last day of the year so's I best be puttin this idea away for next year.

On another note - We dropped the boat in the water Friday for a few hours out in Biscayne Bay and a short run up the Miami river. I had the wife, two daughters and a neighbor along. It was windy and rough but a great day. Both engines (1987 23' CC with twin SeaDrives) were hummin just fine so I won't be in a huge rush for the 225. I did have to spend a good part of yesterday on the To-Do list from the trip. Mostly little stuff that comes from not using the boat in a while. Kinda fun puttering though.
